Sunset of Summer

The pace of summer is replaced with quickening fall footsteps and beach umbrellas are stored away in the dark corners of the basement for another year. It is my least favorite season, we are further from summer than at any other time on the calendar. I am not moved by the beautiful colors of a Pennsylvania autumn or the smoky scent of wood, burning in the fireplace. I am melancholic for the sounds of life and living-the sounds of summer. It's not as though I haven't tried to enjoy the seasons. I've gone on hayrides and trekked through pumpkin patches, played in piles of fallen (dead) leaves. I have skied in the winter, got cozy in front of the fire and baked enough to fill the block with the sweet scent of cookies. It is like dating a really great guy after being jilted by the love of your life. Something is always missing. This year I am filling the months with extra classes at Widener University. I may not post as often as I did over the summer months although I am hoping to post at least monthly until late winter. By then I will notice that the days are getting infinitesimally longer and the tune of Wildwood Days starts playing in my head. And we'll be closer to spring than we were in September.

Living in South Florida for over 30 years I miss the change of seasons. I sit here in the heat of the summer, that we want to think of as fall, and reminisce of the beautiful days of fall in Pennsylvania.

Plain Jane, remember last year I came to visit and was greeted with 12 inches of snow? It was at that time that I realized I like fall but absolutely have no love for winter and snow. It had been 12+ years since I saw snow.

However, we take our beautiful weather in South Florida for granite. The best months are when it is bitter cold up there, however, it is the most croweded with tourists here and that causes traffic, crowds and such.

Take a break and come on down as they use to say when you get tired of that cold weather.

If nothing else I am really enjoying reading Plain Jane's muses about the end of summer. I, on the other hand love when October rolls around since that is my birth month. I really seem to be more alive during this time more than any other. Living in Central Florida as I do we do experience a change of seasons . Not as dramatic as up north. The irony of where I live now is that the town next to ours is none other than "WILDWOOD,FLORIDA".So tomorrow I will drive to WILDWOOD to pick up my dry cleaning.
Looks like middle sister must be on vacation from her BIG POSITION. It's good to hear from you sister.

Anonymous and I spent 5 wonderful days together with our husbands in tow. It is obvious that the weather is changing in the middle of the state of Florida. We went to dinner on the golf cart and it was actually cool which is a nice change from the weather in South Florida.

I have decided that this blog gets me away from that big phoney baloney job that I have. Sometimes I try to step back and regroup to remember that family is very important. Even though being the middle sister with you two can be the challange of a life time but I wouldn't give it up for anything in the world. It makes for great blog stories.
